I just had Mango Salad Rolls for lunch and now I found myself buying a Mango Bun, Coffee Bun, and Chicken with Pesto and Walnut at Daily Buns (Gen. Luna Branch).
The Mango Bun is mango-delicious in a different way. I mean, it’s like the sweetness of mango was perfectly proportioned to the taste of Daily Buns’ pastries. Good Lord, it was milky. I ate the center last because the toppings were on it. And ta-da! Slices of dried mangoes, which were sweetened in a perfect way, or maybe it was just a brand I haven’t tried, filled the surprise center. Unhealthy, yes, but I guess it’s because they intend the bun as well as the filling to last longer. I remembered this because I was once given a personal-sized cake from Bob’s as a gift and it had fresh fruit for toppings. Since I couldn’t finish it in one eating, it had to stay in the fridge and that was during the holidays which meant there was a lot of food. After around 5 days, the mango slices were the ones that got darker and flimsier first.
Ok you got me. I didn’t have my Blackberry phone with me so I stole pictures again. Thank you fellow bloggers!
Next up is the Chicken with Pesto and Walnuts. It is a light bread only disguised by festive toppings. I ate it for dinner and since I stayed up late that night for the exam the next day, it left me feeling hungry after 5 hours even though I ate one turon (take-out during dinner at Bauhinia) with it. I didn’t even have that feeling of being full and I felt my stomach was empty around 8 p.m. while I went up and down the stairs to ask questions from my dorm mate.
After eating it, I realized I don’t like the lingering taste of Italian sauce, which is pesto in this case. I loved the walnuts though. And the chicken. And the pesto. Ok I just love carbs.
And saving the best for the last, Coffee Bun remains to be my favourite! The last time I ate I did not get to enjoy it because I ate it for the sake of having something to eat because I will be drinking my medicine after and also because I kept it in my bag the whole time, tearing it part by part only because it was so delicious I didn’t wanna share it bwahahaha!
Surprise center? Check!
I can’t guess though if it’s custard or milk but anyhow the milk wasn’t that sweet so the change of flavour from the not-so-bitter coffee to the not-so-sweet filling wasn’t sudden and wouldn’t make you feel dizzy. I ate it for breakfast and damn I had a good performance during my first class which was PE (Basketball)!
Daily Buns bakes a lot of different pastries I can never wait to try! I have tried their Blueberry Muffin and it does have a generous hint of blueberries! Be it in the batter or the blueberry pieces.
I’m not sure if it’s only in their Gen. Luna branch that they require a minimum purchase of P100 so you can avail of their free Wi-Fi but nevertheless it’s okay so If I need a place to study I can go there and not purchase pastries totalling to 100. The shop was facing the sunset though and the glare is disturbing. I suggest they put up simple blinds. Anyhow, their interiors are enough to make me feel at home.
